Hello all.
Today I am happy to announce that we will be updating all servers to Minecraft 1.17.1 on Monday, August 9th. I will need to take the servers offline from 6 - 10AM EDT for this process. You may see that PCN is fully offline or showing "maintenance mode" during this time. Here is a timezone converter if you're not sure when that is in your local time.
As always, if you notice anything out of sorts, drop a message here or in Discord->#reports.
Anticipated Changes
- Support for Minecraft 1.15.x will be dropped. We support N-1 major versions so that you can continue to use your favorite mods when they are slow to update. Actively maintained mods should support at least Minecraft 1.16 by now.
- Support for Vivecraft will be dropped, temporarily. No one has mentioned this for a bit, but right now we do support Vivecraft. The plugin has not yet released an update for 1.17 so we're dropping it until they have a stable release.
- TPPets will work again. The plugin maintainer has at long last released an update that fixes the loosing pets between world teleports bug. Any pets that were lost are unfortunately gone for good. If you were afflicted by this recently, contact a staff member and we can sort something out.
Why do you need 4 hours to update a Minecraft server? I can do it in 30 seconds.
Applying the update doesn't take nearly that long, but we also use these windows to update other OS-level software and rotate PKI/secrets that would otherwise disrupt things when there are people on the server. I also need to make several routing changes to our network so that we have more control over IP bans and connection rate-limiting. We take protecting the little user data we have seriously and this is part of that commitment.
What? I thought you guys were resetting the world?
