Overview
What is the PCN Project Team?
The PeacefulCraft project team is a subset of our volunteer corps which is tasked with special projects that go beyond day-to-day staffing and maintenance of the network. This includes Minecraft builds, plugin development, general software development, project management, 3D modeling, and digital art. Team members are expected to be self-motivated, independent, and discrete. While details about our projects do eventually go public, during the development phase we expect team members to keep things underwraps and be able to stay committed to their tasks without being in the limelight.
Project Team Responsibilities
Most of the project team’s work is done behind the scenes on our development servers or committed to one of our GitHub repositories. Teams generally have weekly or bi-weekly Discord meetings to coordinate (sprints) tasks. There is no hard time requirement, but the baseline is attending project meetings regularly and setting aside a few hours a week to complete your assigned task(s). The more consistent we all are, the more cool stuff we can bring to the server.
Project Team Benefits
Name listed on our website as a volunteer. (Unless you don’t want to be.)
Citable experience in your field(s) of interest.
Project team role(s) in Discord.
Access to information on and influence over PeacefulCraft’s future.
More details on benefits;
Positions are not paid - PCN has no sources of income to support paid positions anywhere on our teams. Project team members receive no extra benefits on our mainline gameservers (PvE, Creative, Minigames, etc). However, project team members are listed publicly on our website with their IGN and are welcome to reference work they do on/for PCN in their own personal or professional ventures. Most of our software, art, and modeling assets are publicly posted to GitHub. PCN takes no claim of ownership over any work done by it’s volunteers so you’re welcome to re-use content elsewhere as you desire. However, providing any form of technical or creative assets for PCN implies an indefinite approval of non-profit seeking usage of that asset in its provided state. Team members also receive project roles in our Discord server and will receive credit in public announcements and postings.
Application Process
How to Apply to the Project Team?
Please create a new post within the Staff Application topic and include the following information in your application. Supplemental information which you think we should know when considering your application is fine too, but make sure these questions are answered. We do not ask “what project(s) do you want to work on” because we anticipate work will be fluid and responsibilities will likely come from multiple projects. Projects are meant to be temporary and we expect that team members appointments will outlast most of them. Obviously we will not force you to work on something if you really don’t want to.
IGN
Timezone
Describe your work ethic. How do you motivate yourself to get things done?
We need to be able to trust when we bring people on that they’ll stick with us for a while and be able to contribute.
Specialty
Choose one of: graphic design, 3D modeling, animation, writing, communications, programming (what language(s)?), Minecraft building, project management. This doesn’t mean this is all we will ask you to do, but it will probably be the bulk of what we ask you to work on when those tasks exist. Lateral movement later is totally fine.
Portfolio / Credentials
Please include any examples you can of your work. Ideally these are things we can see or somehow verify; PlanetMinecraft posts, public code repositories, deviantart profiles, AO3, FF.net, Wattpad accounts, professional publications, etc. Please include links when applicable.
Updating Your Application
You may go back and edit your application at any time, but please do not double post your application. If you want to make changes, edit or respond to your initial post. This will bump your post to the top of the topic and we will review your updated application.
Selection Process
Anyone can post or update an application at any time. We have a rolling application process and bring on new team members as we see interest, talent, maturity, community support, and evidence that you'd handle complex incidents adeptly. We may reach out to you to arrange a short interview to ask a few more questions regarding conflict management
Responding to Other User's Applications
Don't respond to another user's applications. Even if you notice a formatting error, leave it to the forum staff to point out what is missing.
If you have any questions about the application process or application requirements post them on this thread. Do not post your staff application here, we'll delete it and tell you to move it to the Staff Applications topic.
Current Projects
Sword Craft Online; Sword Craft Online is our largest and most infamous project. SCO is a custom RPG gamemode loosely based off of its namesake SwordArtOnline - specifically the Aincrad arc of the show. We’re not re-creating any of the manga, but have taken much of the lore of Aincrad and are working to create a fantastical RPG with custom combat mechanics centered around sword play, classic and never-before-seen variants of Minecraft mobs, a completely custom world, custom models, and an original storyline.
Seeking
- Project management staff (scheduling, organizing docs, meeting notes, tracking task progress).
- Programmers (Java, Javascript, HTML, CSS).
- Writers.
- 3D artists (MC resource packs, blockbench, etc).
- 2D artist (MC resource packs, general artistry).
- Minecraft builders (Experience in World Painter is a plus, but not required).
Event Staff; We’ve been trying to be more consistent in hosting original events on the network. Generally we target at least one event every two weeks. Our events team is responsible for the scheduling, advertising, and technical setup of these events. Most of the event team’s work is clerical or technical. We’re looking for people who can help events come to fruition, not just brainstorm events. Event ideas can be submitted by anyone on our forums or through the #ideas channel in our Discord.
Seeking
Communication and Publicity; We've recently launched a communications and publicity team which will be handling our advertisement and PR, as well as programming content around our community. This will be social media and entertainment content; Twitter, Instagram, Twitch, and YouTube.
- Communications staff (announcements and adverts, social media. Graphic design experience is a plus, but not required).
- Video editors (primarily highlights and lets play content with the occasional cinematic tailor).
- Legal consultants (data protection & privacy, copyright & IP mostly).
